Celebrating Ten Years of Hope and Healing

Ten years ago, St. Andrew's Lighthouse, Inc. began a lifesaving partnership with area hospitals to provide affordable, temporary housing to patients traveling to Jacksonville to receive medical care.  Our mission is to help ease the financial, physical and emotional stresses that accompany serious illness by providing true hospitality in a caring, supportive atmosphere.

St. Andrew's House of Care is located less than a mile from the Atlantic Ocean and just minutes away from major Jacksonville area medical facilities, including the world renown Mayo Clinic.  Since opening the door for our first guests in June 2000, St. Andrew’s  has had the privilege of providing shelter and support to more than 2,300 patients and families from 35 states and 3 foreign countries.

In 2009, nearly 200 families called the Lighthouse their "home away from home". Our dedicated staff of volunteers donated more than 1,500 hours of service to help make their stay more comfortable.

However, the need for our services far exceeds our present capacity.

Hope for the Future

To meet the need, St. Andrew's and Mayo Clinic FLorida have partnered to open the Gabriel House of Care.  On March 25, 2010, ground was broken for the new 30-bedroom facility which will be located on the Mayo Clinic campus.  Major donors are Jorge and Leslie Bacardi.  Gabriel House of Care is scheduled to open in Spring 2011.  See the Gabriel House page for more information.
